The Hands of the Artisan  The making of Tibetan crystal jewelry has never been industrial. It is ritualistic craft. In dim workshops lit by butter lamps, artisans sit cross-legged with bowls of stones before them. Each crystal is washed not only in water but in mantra—cleansed by the recitation of the Six-Syllable Mantra, Om Mani Padme Hum. Only then does the work
